Vocametrix runs Praat
Vocametrix does not reimplement Praat's algorithms: its server runs Praat 6.4.60, with one script per measure and fixed settings. For AVQI it uses the official v03.01 script by Maryn, Corthals and Barsties v. Latoszek with the calculation lines unchanged; our tests give the same score to four decimal places.
The Praat commands behind each measure
F0, jitter and shimmer: To Pitch (cc) and To PointProcess (cc), 75 to 500 Hz, time step 0.01 s, then Get jitter (local) and Get shimmer (local). HNR: To Harmonicity (cc), time step 0.01 s, F0 floor 75 Hz for men and 100 Hz for women. CPPS: To PowerCepstrogram (60 Hz, 0.002 s, up to 5,000 Hz), then Get CPPS with the peak searched between 60 and 330 Hz. GNE: To Harmonicity (gne), 500 to 4,500 Hz. These are the settings of the voice assessment; the methods page lists the rest, so you can rerun any value in Praat yourself.
When to keep Praat
Praat is free and remains the better tool for research, custom analyses, batch scripts over large corpora and fine annotation of the signal and spectrogram. Vocametrix is meant for routine clinical work: the same recording protocol and settings every time, values compared with sourced references, and a report you can export.

No: it runs Praat. Vocametrix wraps Praat 6.4.60 in a guided recording protocol, fixed settings and an exportable report for routine clinical work. For research or custom analyses, Praat itself remains the right tool.
Will I get the same values as in Praat?
With Praat 6.4.60, the same recording and the settings listed on the methods page, yes: the computation is Praat's own. Values can differ from other software such as MDVP, which is why the references we compare them with are named.
Do I need to install anything?
No installation or scripting is required for the online tools — you work directly in the browser-based platform.
